Region Coding
Also known as Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE).
A playback management system that divides the world into 6 sales regions (shown in the table below), preventing users from viewing DVDs from other countries and regions. Reproduction in more than one region may be made possible, depending on software company's decision.

| 1 | Bermuda, Canada, the Cayman Islands, United States and U.S. territories |
| 2 | Europe and some other countries such as Japan Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. |
| 3 | Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, South Korea, and Taiwan. |
| 4 | Australia, New Zealand, Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America. |
| 5 | African countries not explicitly included in other regions, the Indian subcontinent, countries included in the former Soviet Union, Mongolia, North Korea, and Seychelles. |
| 6 | Mainland China. |
