Aliasing

An unwanted effect that usually occurs on chequered clothes, blinds, garage doors or other symmetrically arranged items. This effect is usually characterised by 'waves' forming over the object rather than it remaining still. Although some DVD transfers have managed to improve this over VHS, it still occurs occasionally.
